Team B Conducts Extensive Feedback Sessions with the National and County Government Officials
December 1st, 2016
The project team organised a seven-day dissemination exercise with various stakeholders at the national and Baringo county government levels. The exercise covered all the six sub counties (Mogotio, Koibatek, Tiaty, Baringo Central, Baringo North and Baringo South) of Baringo county. The exercise was conducted from 22-30 November 2016.
This was a stakeholders’ forum aimed at gathering feedback from local administrators and community opinion leaders. The project team shared the consolidated research findings from all research components. Ultimately the feedback received from the different stakeholders will enrich the final recommendations that will be incorporated into policy briefs to both county and national governments.
The forums were well attended across all the six sub-counties with participants drawn from:
- National government: deputy county commissioners, assistant county commissioners, chiefs, assistant chiefs and sub-county education officers;
- Baringo county government officials: representatives from the Ministries of Health, Information and Communication; Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (veterinary department); and sub-county administrators; and
- Community resource persons: village elders, opinion leaders among others.
The most notable feedback from the stakeholders described their challenges in accessing healthcare facilities and medicines, low or selective bed net coverage, insecurity, lack of proper diagnostics, lack of knowledge on symptoms of RVF in humans and animals, self-medication for malaria, and myths associated with the two diseases (RVF and malaria). The sub-county level leaders’ forums were also intended to be entry points to the community as a precursor to public barazas that will be conducted in early 2017.
