Objective 2b

This objective includes the entomology and parasitology components of the study

The data from these components are necessary to meet objectives one and two. These components involve:

  1. determining the relative abundance of tsetse fly species and their infection rates in Simanjiro, Northern Tanzania, and
  2. predicting vector and disease dynamics and the effect of temperature on the tsetse flies.

This involves trapping tsetse flies on a monthly basis at a number of sites and using molecular techniques to identify the species of trypanosome that flies are infected with.
