This objective includes the entomology and parasitology components of the study
The data from these components are necessary to meet objectives one and two. These components involve:
- determining the relative abundance of tsetse fly species and their infection rates in Simanjiro, Northern Tanzania, and
- predicting vector and disease dynamics and the effect of temperature on the tsetse flies.
This involves trapping tsetse flies on a monthly basis at a number of sites and using molecular techniques to identify the species of trypanosome that flies are infected with.
