Studies conducted in Côte d’Ivoire and Mauritania

December 21st, 2015

As planned within the projects, two transversal studies were conducted in Côte d’Ivoire and Mauritania during the rainy season (July to September 2015) and dry season (March to May 2015). In Mauritania, the two seasons did not show tangible differences regarding the transmission of malaria and schistosomiasis. We therefore conducted two entomological and malacological surveys and collected clinical health data in Kaedi from 1-8 October 2015 and from 10-17 December. These corresponded with the use of impoundments (a body of water surrounded by dikes that act to retain the water) for rice cultivation. These additional surveys aimed to understand the influence of human agricultural activities on the transmission of malaria and schistosomiasis in Kaedi (Mauritania). Dr Dahdi, the Co-PI of the project in Mauritania, Dr Bâ Hampaté, one of the project’s senior researchers in entomology and malacology, and the two master’s students based in Mauritania were involved in the data collection.
