Research Uptake

Research Uptake Objectives

Research uptake aims and proposed communication activities for each of the three specific objectives are outlined below:


Objective 1

The results of objective one will be communicated through publications and conferences, workshops, technical reports and policy briefs. The aim is to make stakeholders more aware of the factors that influence the vulnerability of people to malaria and bilharzia.


The stakeholders involved are:

  • Civil society: community and religious leaders, NGOs, researchers, municipality, districts,
  • Public sector: public health structures, DDS, DRS, DEnv, Ministers of Health and Environment, district offices
  • Private sector: private health structures


Objective 2

The results of objective two will be communicated through publications and conferences, workshops, technical reports and policy briefs. The aim is to strengthen the knowledge of stakeholders on the relationships between climate systems, socio-ecological systems, and transmission of the diseases.


The stakeholders involved are:

  • Civil society: community and religious leaders, NGOs, researchers, municipality, districts, agricultural cooperatives,
  • Public sector: public health structures. DDS, DRS, DEnv, Ministers of health and environment, districts, weather services, DRAgro
  • Private sector: private health structures


Objective 3

One of the aims of objective three is to produce a document of tools and strategies for resilience. Communication will be through local radio, theatre, films, documentaries, leaflets, fliers, calendars, community mobilisation, early warning systems (radio and weather stations) and workshops. The outcome is to make target populations more resilient to the two diseases.


The stakeholders involved are:

  • Civil society: communities (household members, secondary school students, university students)
  • Public sector: health structures, DDS, Ministry of Health
  • Private sector: private health structures
